How can we Grow Younger with Age?

As highlighted in an earlier post, we are aging prematurely due to exposure to free radicals in our modern lifestyle. These free radicals in turn causes oxidative stress in our body, leading to early onset of diseases as well. To arrest this phenomena, we will need wholesome foods which are high in antioxidants and phytochemicals. In this post, we will introduce some superfoods which are high in antioxidants and phytochemicals. They will indeed help us to grow younger, by reducing our premature aging.

1) Rose

A single rose, contains antioxidants equivalent to 50 lemons. With this high antioxidant level, it is able to protect us against free radical damage and encourages the production of collagen in our body. Collagen is critical to many parts of our body, you can read more here.

Antioxidants too help to nourish our immune system, allowing us to be more resistant to colds. Rose helps in promoting wound healing and lightens pigmentation on our skin as well. With its multi-functions and benefits, its no wonder ladies love the flower!

You may immediately feel like running to the nearest florist to buy up all the roses. However, do bear in mind that those at the florist would be pesticides laden and not safe for consumption.

2) Cactus Fruit / Cactus

Cactus contains 10,000 different types of phytochemicals compared to only 100 types in orange and 300 types in Aloe Vera. The great variety of phytochemicals help to cut off cancer synthesis pathways, disallowing them to proliferate in our body.

Cactus also has very strong anti-inflammatory ability and promotes cell repair and renewal. This speeds up wound healing which in turn improves the appearance of scars. Long term consumption of cactus also improves blood cholesterol levels. Cactus also delays our skin aging process by protecting against DNA damage.

3) American Ginseng

American Ginseng is typically more well known for its roots. At the same time, the plant does also yield berries, or its fruit. Both are rich in antioxidants, phytochemicals and polysaccharides which are good for nourishing and giving our immune system a well needed boost.

As American Ginseng is a well known adaptogen, it helps us to adapt better and relax more. Thus, it allows us to have better concentration during the day and better sleep quality at night. It also contains antioxidants which helps in slowing down cell aging and improve cell regeneration.
